In Balance, Inc., Carney’s Business Technology Center, and Customsoft Corporation and have combined their companies to fulfill technological needs and create the Kern Business Technology Center (Kern BTC). These three independent companies share ideas, resources and a workspace. The goal of this single location is to create a one-stop solution center to Kern’s business community. Carney’s has been in the building for 15 years while Customsoft and In Balance have worked out of Kern BTC for one year and two years, respectively.
In Balance is headed by Sandy Foster and provides and maintains accounting software. User training, project management and software development are all offered. In Balance offers the following Microsoft Business Solutions products: Solomon, Great Plains, and Microsoft Small Business Financials. In Balance also supports Microsoft's new entry level accounting program, Small Business Accounting.
Carney’s has been in business since 1977 and started out as a typewriter business, but moved into computers and related equipment to assist businesses’ move into the technology age. Headed by Rick Kreiser, it is a Value-Added Reseller (VAR) offering computer products and training services with a focus on business customers. Carney’s was also one of nine Kern County small business chosen for the innovative economic gardening program, “Tomatoes on Steroids”.
Customsoft, founded by Kent Augustine in 1989, specializes in website design and development, e-mail marketing and newsletters, custom software development, and data services. Clients include all local Coldwell Banker offices, Wickersham Jewelers, Kern EDC and Dewar’s Candy among others.
